Beeple, the digital artist also known as Mike Winkelmann, has launched Beeple Studios, a 50,000-square-foot space in Charleston, South Carolina, to create a community of non-fungible token (NFT) artists.
Beeple made headlines in March 2021 when he sold his famous artwork “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days” for $69.3 million at a Christie’s auction. The opening of Beeple Studios took place on Saturday, in partnership with Christie’s, featuring artwork from NFT artists like Fvckrender, XCopy, Pak, Victor Duarte, Refik Anadol, and others. The studio includes a 13,000-square-foot gallery and a 13,000-square-foot experiential space, which will be used for showcasing different types of artists and community events. The studio is not yet open to the public, but people can register for time slots to visit the gallery.
The rise of NFT art has led to immersive, in-person digital art experiences, with several prominent museums displaying NFT artwork, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the New York Museum of Modern Art. Refik Anadol’s “Unsupervised” generative artwork has been on display in the Museum of Modern Art since January and will run through early April.
