Philippines Triumphs as Grand Champions in 15th World Esports Championship

The 15th World Esports Championship, a spectacular ten-day competition where the Philippines won the Grand Champion title in an incredible closing ceremony, is officially over, according to the International Esports Federation (IESF).

Diverse Gaming Excellence

WEC23 included six different video games, including CS:GO, Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, eFootball 2023, Tekken 7, and PUBG Mobile, to show off the skills of esports athletes from across the world. With a peak of 700,796 viewers during the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Grand Final, the tournament smashed viewing records.

With the women’s CS:GO tournament including twice as many teams as the previous year and the Netherlands winning, the event also represented a huge advancement for women in esports.

More Than Esports

In addition to the fierce competition, the 15th WE Championship provided participants with an immersive experience that included stimulating panel discussions with business leaders, activations with IESF partner FitGMR, and a ComicCon event that included them on many different levels.

The finals were a three-day music festival put on in association with Digital Throne, the biggest pop culture event in Romania. Notable performers included Armin van Buuren and Lost Frequencies. At the lavish closing ceremony, which was place at the Palace of Culture and honored the participants’ accomplishments, dignitaries were present.

Saudi Arabia to Host 16th World Esports Championship

At the closing ceremony, Saudi Arabia made an important statement by receiving the IESF flag in recognition of their upcoming hosting of the 16th World Esports Championship in 2024. As Saudi Arabia is ready to host the IESF’s premier event for the first time, this is a historic occasion.

HRH Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Bin Sultan Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, has expressed excitement for the forthcoming tournament in Riyadh, demonstrating Saudi Arabia’s commitment to esports. At the competition, participants will compete while flying the flags of their respective countries.

The IESF’s president, Vlad Marinescu, expressed enthusiasm for the potential partnership with Saudi Arabia and emphasized the country’s commitment to esports promotion on a worldwide level.

The Philippines’ success at WEC23 is a tribute to the worldwide popularity and rising relevance of esports on the international scene as the esports community anxiously anticipates the 2024 tournament.
