UK Court Confirms What Everyone in Crypto Already Knew, Craig Wright is Not Bitcoin Creator

A fact well-known in the cryptocurrency community has now been confirmed by a court ruling. Indeed, Craig Wright’s fraudulent claims should not have garnered such attention. However, as a news organization, we are obligated to cover this development, albeit briefly.
A UK court has determined that Craig Wright, who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, is not the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper. This ruling ended the trial initiated by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) against Wright’s attempts to assert intellectual property rights over Bitcoin’s technology and to sue developers and other members of the cryptocurrency community.
Judge James Mellor, presiding over the case, found the evidence against Wright’s claims to be “overwhelming.” He announced that he would issue a detailed judgment, affirming that Wright was not involved in the creation of Bitcoin, nor did he author the initial versions of its software.
COPA’s lawsuit against Wright, filed in 2021, aimed to prevent him from filing lawsuits against developers or claiming ownership over Bitcoin’s open-source technology. The alliance, supported by prominent figures and companies in the crypto industry such as Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey, Coinbase, and others, celebrated the court’s decision as a victory for the open-source community and the truth.
The judgment also affects other lawsuits filed by Wright, including cases against Coinbase and Dorsey’s Block, related to his claims of database rights to the Bitcoin blockchain. The court’s ruling, confirming Wright is not the creator of Bitcoin, could affect these cases.

A spokesperson for COPA stated, “This decision is a win for developers, for the entire open source community, and for the truth. For over eight years, Dr. Wright and his financial backers have lied about his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto and used that lie to bully and intimidate developers in the bitcoin community. That ends today with the court’s ruling that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”
