WATER Memecoin Surge Fades After Ronaldinho Endorsement
(Originally posted on : Crypto News – iGaming.org )
This week, the value of the Solana-based memecoin WATER unexpectedly increased because to sponsorships from football legends Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho Gaucho. This increase, though, was fleeting as the token’s value dropped back to its starting points by the middle of the workweek.
The famous Brazilian football player Ronaldinho Gaucho promoted WATER on his Instagram on Tuesday, one day after Lionel Messi declared himself an official representative on Monday. These two well-known athletes’ sponsorships propelled the memecoin into the public eye and caused a sharp increase in its value.
Despite this high-profile backing, little information is available about WATER’s charitable objectives. According to a project representative, the token has been involved in several initiatives, such as aiding flood relief in Southern Ukraine, educating communities in Northern Brazil, and providing clean water to 4,000 people in Uganda and Ethiopia. However, these claims remain unverified.
Ambitious Goals, Unclear Plans
WATER’s official website claims the token was developed in collaboration with the BEER memecoin team and emphasizes a mission beyond mere entertainment. The project aims to combat deforestation and improve water distribution in Africa. However, specifics on how these goals will be achieved and funded are lacking.
A WATER spokesperson told crypto.news, “Right now, we are looking into the limits of the possibilities providing hundreds of thousands of dollars to have a clear and direct impact in multiple places around the world.” The team plans to generate funds through various means, including market-making fees. Additionally, a publicly known wallet address will be shared for tracking donations and campaign disbursements.

Interestingly, the website also states, “WATER is a meme coin with no intrinsic value or expectation of financial return. WATER is completely useless and for entertainment purposes only.” This disclaimer adds to the ambiguity surrounding the project’s true intentions and effectiveness.
Following the social media endorsements from Messi and Ronaldinho, WATER’s value skyrocketed by over 200% on Tuesday, reaching nearly 600 million users combined. However, by Wednesday, the token’s gains had largely evaporated, leaving it up a modest 2.4% and maintaining a market cap of around $69 million.
The relationship between Ronaldinho and the WATER memecoin remains unclear, as the footballer previously distanced himself from a crypto scam that misused his identity last year.
Despite the initial hype, the future of WATER remains uncertain. Its brief surge in value highlights the power of celebrity endorsements in the crypto market, but the lack of detailed plans and transparency may pose challenges to its long-term success.
