Donald Trump plans to release a fourth NFT collection, as revealed in a Bloomberg Businessweek interview on Tuesday. Trump, who once criticized the crypto industry, now embraces it, citing competition from China as a key motivator. “If we don’t do it, China is going to pick it up,” he stated.
In the interview, Trump shared that his previous NFT collections were highly successful, selling out quickly with his first series sold out in one day, and his second series repeating this success. “The whole thing sold out: 45,000 of the cards. And I did it three times [and] I’m going to do another one, because the people want me to do another one. It’s unbelievable spirit. Beautiful,” Trump said.
Trump first hinted at a fourth NFT collection during a gala for his mugshot NFT holders (his 3rd NFT collection) at Mar-a-Lago in May. At the time, he was non-committal, saying, “I believe in supply and demand. And as you know, one did great, two did great, three did great. At some point maybe that turns around.”
Trump’s shift from crypto skeptic to supporter is notable. He explained, “We have a good foundation. It’s a baby. It’s an infant right now. But I don’t want to be responsible for allowing another country to take over this sphere.” He emphasized the importance of the U.S. staying ahead in the crypto space to prevent other countries, particularly China, from dominating.
In addition to his NFT plans, Trump announced pro-Bitcoin senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his choice for running mate. This decision aligns with his newfound support for the crypto industry and indicates a continued focus on digital assets.
