The top stablecoin provider, Tether, has announced intentions to produce a documentary highlighting how its USDT stablecoin addresses issues with inflation around the world. The company wants to emphasize how USDT has assisted people and companies in inflation-ridden nations in stabilizing their financial transactions as part of its tenth anniversary celebration.
Tether features interviews with users from Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, and other nations that are experiencing high rates of inflation in the teaser for their documentary. These people describe how the USDT stablecoin has integrated itself into their everyday routines. One Brazilian interviewee mentioned, “Tether with USDT is like 90% of the transactions that Brazil makes during the day.” The trailer emphasizes USDT’s role as a digital alternative to the US dollar, empowering users to maintain value in high-inflation economies.
In Brazil, USDT adoption has skyrocketed. In 2023, it accounted for 80% of all cryptocurrency transactions in the country, further solidifying the stablecoin’s significance in Latin America’s financial landscape.
Reeve Collins, Craig Sellars, and entrepreneur Brock Pierce initially introduced Tether on October 6, 2014, under the moniker “Realcoin.” With the use of blockchain technology, the project sought to create a digital token with a 1:1 value to fiat money, facilitating easy cross-border transactions. Built on the OmniLayer of Bitcoin at first, USDT subsequently extended its activities over other blockchain networks, including as Ethereum, Tron, and The Open Network.
