Moonbirds NFTs Acquired by Orange Cap Games from Yuga

Yuga Labs has transferred ownership of the Moonbirds, Mythics, and Oddities NFT collections to Orange Cap Games (OCG), a crypto gaming studio now taking the lead on projects previously managed under the PROOF brand. The move fits into Yuga Labs’ ongoing effort to realign around its main brands, including Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Apes, and the Otherside metaverse.

OCG announced the acquisition on May 30 but did not disclose how much it paid for the collections. Yuga had only acquired these NFTs about a year ago through its purchase of PROOF, the original creator. Greg Solano, co-founder of Yuga Labs, said the decision was about putting the project in the right hands. “Moonbirds deserve a team whose whole world is the birds,” he explained, highlighting Yuga’s intent to give these collections space to grow under a focused team.

While Moonbirds now fall under new leadership, they will still maintain a role in the Otherside metaverse. Any new onchain assets created by OCG will stay within the Ethereum network or Yuga’s ApeChain infrastructure.

News of the sale triggered a strong response in the market. The floor price for Moonbirds jumped to 0.9 ETH, tripling from earlier levels. Still, that figure is far below the 2022 peak of 38.5 ETH, showing how far NFT valuations have fallen during the broader market downturn.

Yuga’s decision mirrors other moves it has made over the past year. The company has previously stepped back from other projects like CryptoPunks and Meebits, transferring ownership or limiting its role to allow other teams or foundations to take over.
