Tether has unveiled plans for a new dollar-backed stablecoin, naming former White House crypto adviser Bo Hines as CEO of the project. The new token, USA₮, will be regulated in the United States and operate under the requirements of the recently passed GENIUS stablecoin bill.
Good to know
- USA₮ will use Tether’s Hadron platform for real-world asset tokenization
- Stablecoins have surpassed $270 billion in circulation globally
- Bo Hines left the White House Crypto Council in August before joining Tether
According to Tether, USA₮ will be fully aligned with reserve and compliance rules laid out in the GENIUS legislation. The company plans to leverage its Hadron tokenization platform to manage assets backing the stablecoin.
Bo Hines, who resigned from the White House Crypto Council in August, steps into the CEO role as the project begins. His appointment marks a shift back into the private sector after helping shape federal policy on digital assets.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, framed USA₮ as part of a long-term vision:
New players only. Exclusive Welcome Bonus of up to $2,500
“Tether is already one of the largest holders of US Treasuries because we believe deeply in the enduring power of the dollar. USA₮ is our commitment to ensuring that the dollar not only remains dominant in the digital age, but thrives.”
The timing reflects how stablecoins are moving beyond niche adoption and into global policy discussions. The White House recently released its Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology report, which dedicated an entire section to stablecoins and payments. Other major economies, including China, are also monitoring the sector closely as they shape their own frameworks.
With USA₮, Tether is looking to expand its role in regulated markets while addressing rising demand for dollar-backed digital assets. The project combines a compliance-first approach with tokenization technology, signaling how stablecoins are becoming deeply integrated into both financial and political strategies worldwide.
