Background

The fire that broke out on 26 November 2025 at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po quickly grew into one of the most devastating disasters in Hong Kong’s modern history. The blaze spread through eight residential towers, leaving more than 4,600 residents affected and damaging over 1,900 flats. Authorities classified the fire as a No. 5 alarm, the highest category in the city. Current figures indicate at least 65 deaths and around 280 missing individuals, marking the worst fire incident in seven decades.
