Madhya Pradesh Taps Blockchain to Modernize Student Credentials

A new agreement in Madhya Pradesh aims to reset how academic records are issued, stored, and verified, using blockchain infrastructure designed specifically for education systems at scale.

How the Partnership Takes Shape

Open Campus, a community-led decentralized autonomous organization focused on education infrastructure, entered a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Madhya Pradesh and Geeks of Gurukul. The agreement focuses on digitizing academic records across universities and affiliated institutions throughout the state.

A joint steering committee will oversee execution across an 18-month timeline. Representatives from Open Campus, the government of Madhya Pradesh, and Geeks of Gurukul will coordinate governance, rollout milestones, and system integration.

From Paper Records to Verifiable Credentials

Open Campus will deploy infrastructure that allows universities to issue verifiable digital credentials directly to students and alumni. Each credential will exist as a secure digital record rather than a static document.

Graduates will retrieve records instantly without repeated manual requests. Universities will reduce administrative workload, while maintaining control over credential issuance standards.

Faster Hiring Through Blockchain Verification

The system will issue digital IDs, secure wallets, and smart cards that give employers fast access to verified academic history. Blockchain-based verification removes reliance on third-party checks and lengthy confirmation processes.

Employers benefit from reduced hiring friction and lower verification costs. Graduates gain smoother job applications and stronger trust signals when applying locally or internationally.

Education Financing Linked to Digital Identity

Open Campus will also explore education financing options tied directly to digital student identities. Student loans, scholarships, and upskilling grants will integrate with Open Campus ID onboarding for students and alumni.

Credential storage, secure data handling, and API connections for financing partners will run on EDU Chain, the education-focused blockchain launched by Open Campus. Lenders and grant providers can verify eligibility using trusted academic data rather than manual submissions.
