ACE Exchange Executives Arrested in Taiwan Cryptocurrency Fraud Bust

During a recent operation, Taiwanese law enforcement detained two senior officials from ACE Exchange, which is considered to be among the top cryptocurrency exchanges in the area. Following an extensive investigation that revealed the executives’ role in tricking 100 investors into buying what the authorities have referred to as “worthless virtual currencies,” the arrests have taken place.

The executives Lin Nan and Pan Nan are accused of planning a complex three-year plot. Pan Nan posted the fictitious virtual currencies on ACE Exchange to increase their apparent legitimacy, while Lin Nan used the promise of instant money to mislead gullible people into making investments. Up until law enforcement authorities interfered, the pair was able to operate clandestinely.

In the course of a large-scale operation, Taiwanese police arrested Lin Nan, Pan Nan, and fourteen other people from different places in Taipei, New Taipei, and Taichung. A significant amount of money was recovered from the raid on Lin Nan’s home, including over $3.6 million (111.52 million yuan) in cash and virtual currency worth slightly more than $3.4 million. Authorities calculate that the fraud scheme run by Lin Nan and Pan Nan caused losses totaling more than $36 million.

The suspects, including Lin Nan and Pan Nan, were placed under arrest after intense questioning. They will now be prosecuted under the Banking Act, the Money Laundering Prevention Act, and the Criminal Code of the area.
