Backpack, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange, has appointed Oliver Sleafer as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in a calculated attempt to strengthen its executive staff. Sleafer, who held the position of head of treasury at Backpack before, adds a plethora of financial management expertise to his current position.
Oliver Sleafer has a long history in finance and has held important roles at Credit Suisse and Stripe, among other prestigious companies. Before coming to Backpack, he was Stripe’s Head of Liquidity Management for the Asia-Pacific area. He held a comparable position for five years at Credit Suisse, adding to his strong resume.
Founding Background and Funding
With its quick rise to prominence in the cryptocurrency exchange market, Backpack was formed by Armani Ferrante and Tristan Yver, who were formerly with FTX and Alameda Research, respectively. Once Ferrante and Yver left their respective companies, they took advantage of their extensive knowledge in the cryptocurrency industry to launch Backpack.
Notwithstanding obstacles like FTX’s participation in an unsuccessful fundraising round before its shutdown, Backpack persisted and managed to obtain substantial money to accelerate its development trajectory. Backpack’s mission and promise have been supported by investors, as seen by the company’s recent Series A fundraising round, which received $17 million at a valuation of $120 million.
