Binance, Taiwan Authorities Collaborate to Dismantle $6.2m Laundering Network

Binance, the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau in Taiwan, and the Taipei District Prosecutors Office have formed a noteworthy collaboration to take down a $6.2 million money laundering scheme.
Almost NT$200 million worth of sophisticated plans to use cryptocurrency as a means of money laundering were the focus of the combined operation. In order to avoid being discovered, criminals used fake documents and recordings.
Legal Action and Accountability
Prosecutor Lo Wei-yuan has indicted nine individuals involved, charging them with offenses under the Money Laundering Control Act, aggravated fraud, and organized crime prevention regulations.
Law enforcement agencies leveraged Binance’s Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC) department to trace suspicious transactions. Established in 2020, the FCC comprises experts from various fields to combat financial crimes effectively.
Binance’s proactive approach aligns with global standards in combating financial crimes. The exchange swiftly engaged in collaborative strategies with investigative officers and prosecutors to address the issue.

The proactive engagement of Binance highlights its dedication to adhering to regulatory requirements. Local regulators acknowledged it when it started the registration procedure last year under Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and Money Laundering Control Act.
Apart from implementing enforcement measures, Binance organizes instructional seminars to improve the capacity of law enforcement. To strengthen its relationship with Taiwanese authorities, it arranged a training on virtual assets law enforcement for Keelung District Prosecutors Office personnel in March.
