The flagship cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, reached previously unheard-of heights during the most recent trading session, briefly surpassing $89,000 before falling to $87,000. High volatility in the cryptocurrency market was caused by this price fluctuation, which increased Bitcoin’s weekly gains to nearly 32%. Consequently, both bullish and bearish positions were impacted by about $700 million in futures liquidations. With short positions losing about $380 million and long ones losing about $290 million, traders saw the most liquidations since early April.
The market’s high level of activity is reflected in the volatility of Bitcoin futures, where many traders are impacted by abrupt price changes.
Dogecoin Gains Momentum; Altcoin Liquidations Rise
Dogecoin (DOGE) also saw substantial gains, climbing over 40% to approximately $0.41. The altcoin rally came as Elon Musk, a known Dogecoin supporter, is seen aligning with U.S. political figures, boosting confidence in the token’s future.
Meanwhile, other major cryptocurrencies like Solana’s SOL and Aptos (APT) saw over $25 million in futures liquidations, a significant increase from typical figures. This trend indicates a return to high-risk trading strategies among investors. Data from Coinglass reveals that annualized funding rates have jumped to over 30% on altcoin futures, suggesting traders’ renewed interest in speculative bets.
Following optimistic optimism following a Republican victory in the most recent U.S. elections, Bitcoin has recently gained momentum and is expected to continue growing. According to analysts, a Republican-led government might increase the value of the cryptocurrency industry from $3 trillion to $10 trillion by 2026, with Bitcoin perhaps hitting $100,000 by the end of the year.

Experts advise caution despite the optimism. Given that the price of Bitcoin is getting close to $90,000, a price correction driven by leverage is a possibility. Some traders warn of possible downturns if the market gets overly leveraged and predict a gradual growth rather than a sudden jump to the $100,000 level.
