COPA to Seek Perjury Charges Against Craig Wright in Satoshi Identity Case

The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) announced plans to request that UK prosecutors evaluate allegations of “perjury” against Craig Wright, related to his defense against accusations of forgery. This statement came as the UK trial investigating Wright’s assertion that he is the inventor of Bitcoin was concluding. In their final remarks, COPA charged Wright with not only engaging in forgery but also lying under oath.
As the trial examining whether Wright is the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, known as Satoshi Nakamoto, draws to a close, its verdict could impact numerous other legal battles Wright has initiated within the cryptocurrency community. The alliance, which includes influential members like Block, founded by Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, and crypto enterprises such as Coinbase and Kraken, stressed in their concluding statements that the evidence presented firmly establishes Wright is not the real Satoshi Nakamoto.
Jonathan Hough, representing COPA, firmly stated in court, “Following the evidence in this trial, it is clearer than ever – clear beyond doubt – that Dr. Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto. He did not write the Bitcoin white paper, produce the Bitcoin code or implement the Bitcoin system.” Wright faced accusations from both COPA and several Bitcoin developers of fabricating evidence proving to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Furthermore, on Tuesday, COPA branded Wright as a “dishonest witness” engaged in “very serious fraud” during his testimony.
COPA highlighted instances from the trial where Wright was found defending emails from his prior legal team, which he later claimed were manipulated by unidentified malicious entities, and his admission of altering the Bitcoin white paper as recently as November 2023. These incidents were described as clear indicators of his deceit. The alliance is adamant that the trial’s findings should definitively refute Wright’s claims to being Satoshi and intends to seek “injunctive relief” to stop Wright from initiating any more legal challenges against the cryptocurrency community under the pretense that he is the digital currency’s creator.
