Victoria Jacobs, also known as Bakhrom Talipov, aged 44, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by a New York State court jury. The verdict, delivered by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, marks a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism financing facilitated through cryptocurrency.
According to a press release from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Jacobs was deeply entrenched in online terrorist networks, actively involved in “raising and laundering thousands of dollars” for Syrian terrorist groups. District Attorney Alvin Bragg emphasized the gravity of Jacobs’ actions, stating, “From the safety of her Manhattan apartment, she enabled these groups to access our city’s financial markets in order to help further their mission.”
Felony Counts and Cryptocurrency Transactions
Jacobs was found guilty on multiple charges, including three felony counts of providing support for an act of terrorism, conspiracy, money laundering, and criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors revealed that Jacobs funneled over $6,000 to a terrorist group named “Malhama Tactical” and laundered $12,000 through cryptocurrency and wire transfers. The funds were directed to Bitcoin wallets controlled by the terrorist organization.
Supplying Military Manuals and Soliciting Support
Further incriminating evidence against Jacobs surfaced, indicating her involvement in supplying a detailed U.S. Army Improvised Munitions Handbook to aid in bomb-making activities in Syria. Additionally, Jacobs purchased Google Play gift cards for the organization and actively sought support on online forums, posing as a “brother” operating “behind enemy lines.”
