Police Arrest Two Men Over Cryptocurrency Fraud Targeting Elderly Victim

Two guys connected to a bitcoin scam scheme that caused a 75-year-old Aberdeenshire resident to suffer a large financial loss have been arrested by authorities. They were arrested on February 18, 2025, after the inquiry started in July 2024.
The arrests were made in two separate locations by North East Division CID police officers with support from West Midlands and South Yorkshire Police. A 36-year-old suspect was arrested in Mexborough, while a 54-year-old suspect was arrested in Coventry. The Procurator Fiscal will receive a report from officials regarding the fraud charges against both men.
Detective Sergeant David Williamson underscored the importance of taking action against financial crimes.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring people are protected from fraud. We will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice,” he stated.
Public Urged to Stay Cautious
Authorities continue to warn individuals about the growing risks of financial scams, particularly in cryptocurrency-related investments. Williamson encouraged people to remain watchful and report suspicious activities.

“I would also encourage members of the public to be mindful of activity which appears fraudulent and to report this to police,” he added.
