Ryan Selkis has decided to step down from his role as CEO of Messari. This move allows him to focus on crypto policy and national issues that matter to him. Despite stepping down, Selkis will continue as a senior advisor for Messari, contributing to the company’s long-term strategy.
Messari announced Selkis’s decision on X (formerly Twitter). The company stated, “Ryan recently let us know of his decision to step back from an operational role as the CEO of Messari so that he can focus his time fully on crypto policy and national issues of importance to him.”
In addition to his new focus, Selkis expressed his disgust over the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. He stated his commitment to addressing systemic problems in institutions. On X, Selkis wrote, “I will be channeling all of my energies into addressing the underlying issues that have led to these systemic problems in our institutions.”
Eric Turner, who has been with Messari since its inception, will take over as interim CEO. Turner has played a crucial role in building Messari’s research team, developing foundational products, and managing key customer relationships. Messari noted, “Eric has been with Messari since Day 1, playing a critical role in building our research team, developing foundational products, and managing key customer relationships.”

Recently, Selkis faced backlash after tweeting strong political statements following the attempted Trump assassination. He tweeted, “Anyone that votes against Trump at this point can die in a f*cking fire,” and followed with, “The Civil War for the country started today, and if you are anti-Trump you are against the men who are willing to fight. Good luck.” These tweets have since been deleted.
Reflecting on the incident, Selkis said, “This week was the first week in 6.5 years that my politics and rhetoric put the team in harm’s way.”
