Court Denies Ripple-SEC Push to End XRP Case—Judge Keeps Ruling
Sam Bankman-Fried’s Defense Slams 50-Year Sentence as ‘Outdated

U.S. prosecutors have suggested that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried serve a maximum of 50 years in jail in a spectacular judicial drama. This has drawn harsh condemnation from Bankman-Fried’s defense team. His attorneys responded that Bankman-Fried is being painted as a “depraved super-villain” by the plan, which they compare to a “medieval view of punishment.”
Prosecutors Push for Lengthy Sentence
Prosecutors argue that Bankman-Fried’s involvement in what they deem a “historic” crime warrants a severe penalty. They allege that the collapse of FTX, which impacted over 1 million victims and led to losses surpassing $10 billion, justifies a sentence ranging from 40 to 50 years or more. However, Bankman-Fried’s defense team disputes this, advocating for a significantly shorter prison term of 5.25 to 6.5 years.
In November 2023, a unanimous jury found Bankman-Fried guilty of all seven criminal offenses, which led to his current legal troubles. Bankruptcies were declared in November 2022 as a result of the FTX and Alameda Research crises. The unorganized financial situation at FTX was made clear by bankruptcy filing disclosures, which revealed that the top 50 creditors of the corporation owed more than $3 billion in debt.
Sam Bankman-Fried’s death is at stake in the midst of a bitter court battle and a turbulent era in the cryptocurrency industry as the sentencing date of March 28 at 9:30 a.m. ET approaches.
