SEC Seeks Public Input on Bitwise’s Dual Crypto ETP Proposal

The public is being asked to comment on a new proposal from Bitwise Asset Management by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). An exchange-traded product (ETP) that will hold a mix of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) has been submitted for approval by the cryptocurrency company. The goal of this project is to make the two biggest digital assets by market capitalization easily accessible to investors. Bitwise wants to provide a fair introduction to different cryptocurrencies in an easy-to-use way.

The SEC, through a recent filing, is inviting the public to submit their views on whether the proposed exchange-traded fund (ETF) aligns with legal standards. Specifically, the SEC is seeking feedback on the potential consistency of the rule change with current regulations. As part of the process, the commission encourages individuals to share their thoughts, data, and arguments related to the product.

Bitwise’s ETP and Market Impact

Bitwise has emphasized the convenience of the dual ETP, noting that it will allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin and Ether without needing to directly purchase or manage the digital assets themselves. “NYSE Arca filed to list a Bitwise ETP that would hold both spot Bitcoin and Ether, weighted by market cap. The goal: give investors balanced exposure to the two largest crypto assets in the world in an easy-to-access format,” Bitwise explained on the social media platform X.

Spot market ETFs are designed to offer investors indirect exposure to specific assets, like Bitcoin or Ethereum, in a simpler form. According to the SEC’s filing, Bitwise’s proposed ETP would operate in much the same way as previous Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs approved by the commission.

Bitwise first revealed plans for the BTC and ETH ETF in November, following the submission of an S-1 registration statement with the SEC.
