SlowMist Founder Cautions Crypto Users on Clipboard Risks for Sensitive Data

The creator of the blockchain security company SlowMist, who goes by the alias “Evilcos,” has issued a crucial security reminder, cautioning cryptocurrency traders about handling sensitive data on their devices. Evilcos highlighted the dangers of copying and pasting private information in a recent post to his 81,300 followers on X (previously Twitter), particularly in light of possible flaws in electronic devices.

iPhone Users Have Some Protection, But Caution is Key

Evilcos shared a habit he personally follows on his iPhone to protect his clipboard, a tool often used to store temporary text or data. After copying any sensitive content, he clears his clipboard using a shortcut widget. He highlighted that iPhone users benefit from a security feature that alerts them when an app attempts to access clipboard contents. “With iPhone, the probability of your clipboard contents being ‘stolen’ is much lower,” he stated, explaining that users are prompted to allow or deny clipboard access for third-party apps.

While this extra layer of security exists on iPhones, Evilcos warns against complacency. Clipboard vulnerabilities still pose a risk, especially on computers, where users may copy sensitive information like passwords, wallet addresses, or private keys. As he pointed out, if a computer is connected to the internet, there are “countless possibilities” for information theft.

For crypto traders, security risks extend beyond just mobile devices. Evilcos strongly advises crypto users to adopt secure practices, like using hardware wallets or verified wallets on trusted devices, to minimize potential theft. He noted, “If you play crypto, and your computer is not equipped with a hardware wallet or iPhone wallet for external verification, it is only a matter of time before your money is stolen.”

Though he acknowledges there’s “no absolute safety” in digital security, Evilcos encourages crypto traders to implement small, practical steps to improve their protection. Building consistent safety habits, he believes, can offer peace of mind to those handling digital assets, even if these steps do not guarantee full immunity from threats.
