Telegram Integrates Tether for In-Chat Transactions

Tether, the largest stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, has now been incorporated into Telegram, the most widely used messaging service in the cryptocurrency sector. The integration enables users to buy, sell, swap, and transfer Tether to each other without any fees using the Telegram Wallet bot.

The wallet service announced the highly anticipated USDT integration into the @wallet bot, emphasizing that sending stablecoins is now as simple as sharing a photo.

Users can top up their Tether balance through the bot’s main menu, using an external USDT wallet or by purchasing the stablecoin with a bank card or through Telegram’s peer-to-peer (P2P) market. The @wallet bot only supports transfers from the TRC-20 network.

With an updated wallet interface, users can view all crypto assets on the start page and customize their display preferences in ‘Settings’. The ‘Market’ section contains purchase options.

Telegram’s P2P marketplace has also been revamped to enable users to directly buy and sell stablecoins within the bot by selecting an available offer. An ‘Exchange’ feature on the main page allows USDT and TON trading.

In April 2022, the unofficial @wallet bot added Toncoin (TON) and Bitcoin (BTC), both of which can also be sent via chat. The Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain was launched in 2018 but was discontinued by Telegram in 2020 due to a legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The TON Foundation community members provided further support for the TON network by continuing its development. Although Telegram is not directly involved in the TON ecosystem’s expansion, it remains connected. In 2022, Telegram introduced Fragment, a blockchain platform that enables the buying and selling of collectible usernames using toncoin.
