Tether Considers $20 Billion Dollar Fundraising Round
(Originally posted on : Crypto News – iGaming.org )
As reported by Bloomberg, stablecoin leader Tether Holdings may be preparing one of the largest private fundraising rounds ever seen in crypto. The company is exploring a raise of up to $20 billion, which could push its valuation to around $500 billion and place it among the most valuable private companies on the planet.
Good to Know
- Tether is weighing a $15–20 billion raise at a $500 billion valuation.
- Cantor Fitzgerald is said to be advising on the private placement.
- Talks remain early, and the final amount could end up much lower.
According to people close to the discussions, the fundraising would involve selling about 3% of the company’s equity to investors. Cantor Fitzgerald, already a long-time partner handling Tether’s U.S. Treasury assets, is reportedly leading the advisory role in the deal.
Tether doesn’t enjoy the same cultural visibility as companies like OpenAI, but its financials are drawing attention. In the second quarter of 2025, the firm reported $4.9 billion in profit, bringing its total profit for the year to $5.7 billion. For a company with a lean workforce, those numbers put it in rare territory for profitability per employee.
Comparisons With OpenAI
The rumored valuation mirrors conversations around OpenAI, which The New York Times previously reported was also eyeing a $500 billion valuation. While the two companies operate in completely different sectors, both are shaping their industries — Tether as the largest issuer of stablecoins, and OpenAI as the driving force behind consumer AI adoption.

Talks are still at an early stage, and the sources cited in Bloomberg’s report warned that the numbers being discussed might shift. Even if the fundraising comes in below $20 billion, a deal at this scale would cement Tether’s place as not just the most dominant name in stablecoins but also one of the most profitable players in global finance.
