Think Tank Urges Amazon to Add Bitcoin to Its Strategic Reserves

By April 2025, a worldwide think tank has suggested that Amazon add Bitcoin to its strategic reserves. This recommendation is similar to one Michael Taylor just made to Microsoft.
The conservative Washington, D.C.-based think organization National Center for Public Policy Research has suggested that Amazon ponder about keeping Bitcoin in its reserves. According to the think group, this action might greatly improve Amazon’s financial plan. Amazon now has $88 billion in cash and cash equivalents, which includes corporate, international, and U.S. government bonds.
The think tank believes Bitcoin offers a compelling alternative. “Amazon should – and perhaps has a fiduciary duty to – consider adding asset to its treasury that appreciate more than bonds, even if those asset are more volatile short-term,” the proposal states.
This recommendation follows concerns about inflation eroding the value of traditional bonds. In June 2022, the U.S. inflation rate peaked at 9.1%, reducing the real value of many fixed-income investments.
Bitcoin’s Performance Outshines Bonds
The think group emphasized Bitcoin’s remarkable performance in its suggestion. Bitcoin has increased 131% in the last year, greatly outpacing bond returns of 126%. For businesses trying to optimize shareholder value, this makes it a more alluring asset.

In an article published on X on December 9, Tim Kotzman highlighted that Amazon has few choices for protecting its billions due to the combination of poor bond rates and growing inflation. He pointed out that there is a solid argument for Bitcoin’s inclusion in strategic reserves due to its high returns.
