TON Applications Chain Aims to Integrate with Ethereum via Polygon

TON Applications Chain (TAC) was launched by Pavel Altukhov and his team at the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) in Brussels. The purpose of this new layer-2 (L2) network is to facilitate smooth communication between The Open Network (TON) and decentralized apps (dApps) that run on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

By utilizing Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK), the TAC positions itself as a link between TON and Ethereum’s extensive ecosystem. Through this integration, TON’s functionality as a private messaging service will be expanded. The team hopes that by using the EVM, it would be possible to guarantee compatibility with current Ethereum tools and applications, which will make the development of dApps easier.

According to Altukhov’s team, the Layer-2 network will enhance the scalability and efficiency of TON’s ecosystem. This strategic move is intended to integrate TON’s blockchain infrastructure with Ethereum’s established dApp development environment, enhancing cross-chain functionalities and interoperability.

Clarification from TON Foundation

Notwithstanding early misunderstandings, the TON Foundation’s director of ecosystem development, Antony Tsivarev, and ecosystem lead, Alenka Shmalko, made it clear that the TAC is not supported by the TON Foundation. In their reply, they addressed multiple claims implying that the foundation was the main driving force behind TAC’s development. Shmalko stressed that “TAC is not supported by the TON Foundation.” The purpose of this explanation is to clear up any misunderstandings and outline the contributions and duties of various components of the TON ecosystem.

With the unveiling of TAC, the focus is now on expanding TON’s ecosystem. The use of Polygon’s CDK is expected to streamline the process of developing and deploying dApps on the new layer-2 network, enhancing performance and user experience. The team is optimistic about TAC’s potential to foster innovation and collaboration across blockchain technologies.
