A recent survey conducted by The Harris Poll for Grayscale Investments highlights that high-net-worth investors (HNWIs) in the U.S. are leading the charge in cryptocurrency adoption. The study, spanning from November 2023 to September 2024, surveyed 5,368 U.S. voters with insights into their financial preferences.
The findings reveal that 26% of Americans with at least $1 million in investable assets own cryptocurrency, surpassing the national average of 21%. Furthermore, 38% of these wealthy investors expect to include crypto in their portfolios in the future. Younger investors are particularly optimistic, with 53% of HNWIs under 50 anticipating crypto investments, compared to 22% of those over 50.
Rising Interest Amid Economic Concerns
According to Grayscale, the growing appeal of crypto among wealthy investors reflects evolving market perceptions. The firm stated, “This interest among high-net-worth investors of different ages is encouraging to see and as a result, we’re beginning to enter a period where many expect crypto to become part of their portfolio.”
Interest in Bitcoin (BTC) and other digital assets has increased due to worries about inflation, geopolitical unrest, and the declining value of the US currency. According to 36% of HNWIs, these reasons made them more interested in cryptocurrencies.
The U.S. government’s approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has increased investor confidence even more. As a result, 34% of affluent investors said they were more interested in cryptocurrency, seeing it as a possible hedge against economic volatility.

Twenty percent of HNWIs are open to adding cryptocurrency to their portfolios, and twenty percent view it as a worthwhile long-term investment. The pattern indicates that digital assets are becoming more widely accepted in conventional investment strategies.
With growing support from institutional players and evolving regulatory clarity, wealthy investors are increasingly recognizing crypto as a legitimate and potentially lucrative asset class. As adoption rises, Grayscale believes digital currencies will play a more prominent role in diversified investment portfolios.
