{"id":13384,"date":"2022-07-27T01:28:43","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T01:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crowdfundjunction.com\/blog\/small-crypto-transactions-exempt-from-taxes-in-proposed-bill\/"},"modified":"2022-07-27T01:28:43","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T01:28:43","slug":"small-crypto-transactions-exempt-from-taxes-in-proposed-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crowdfundjunction.com\/blog\/small-crypto-transactions-exempt-from-taxes-in-proposed-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Small Crypto Transactions Exempt From Taxes in Proposed Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>(Originally posted on : Crypto News &#8211; iGaming.org )<\/b><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. Senate has been introduced to a new bipartisan bill that would ease the use of cryptocurrencies in everyday purchases by creating tax exemptions for personal crypto transactions under $50 and capital gains under $50.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Senators Pat Toomey (R) and Kyrsten Sinema (D) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/virtual_currency_tax_fairness_act.pdf\">proposed<\/a> the new bipartisan bill in Congress called the \u201cVirtual Currency Tax Fairness Act\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, the bill aims \u201csimplify the use of digital assets for everyday purchases\u201d by offering \u201ctax exemption for small personal transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Toomey commented, \u201cWhile digital currencies have the potential to become a normal part of everyday life for Americans, our current tax code is holding us back.\u201d He added:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>The Virtual Currency Tax Fairness Act will allow Americans to use cryptocurrencies more easily as an everyday method of payment by exempting from taxes small personal transactions like buying a cup of coffee.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Under applicable law, a taxable event occurs when cryptocurrency is used to pay for a purchase of any amount. If a cryptocurrency appreciates, even by a fraction of a cent, one will owe the IRS for trading capital gains.<\/p>\n<p>The new legislation aims to \u201camend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exclude from gross income de minimis gains from certain sales or exchanges of virtual currency, and for other purposes,\u201d the bill\u2019s text reads.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement continued:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Virtual Currency Tax Fairness Act would simplify the use of digital assets for everyday transactions by creating a sensible de minimis exemption for gains of less than $50 on personal transactions and for personal transactions under $50.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The long anticipated bipartisan crypto bill in the making by U.S. Senators <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/crypto\/wyoming-senator-lummis-fed-reserve-should-buy-bitcoin\/\">Cynthia Lummis<\/a> (R) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D) was recently <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/crypto\/lummis-gillibrand-crypto-bill-moved-to-next-year\/\">postponed<\/a> to next year.
