The world\u2019s largest ethereum mining pool, Ethermine, has announced the organization plans to drop proof-of-work (PoW) ethereum mining entirely. Ethermine says that the platform\u2019s miner dashboard will display a countdown and users can continue to mine ether until the countdown reaches zero.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Largest Ether Mining Pool to End PoW Ethereum Mining \u2014 Ethermine Ethereum Mining Pool Will Switch to Withdraw-Only Mode After the Merge<\/h2>\n

According to a recent announcement<\/a> from the world\u2019s largest ethereum mining pool, Ethermine,<\/a> the platform plans to halt ETH<\/a> mining as soon as The Merge<\/a> takes place. Currently, the Ethereum network will transition<\/a> from a PoW network to a proof-of-stake (PoS) network on or around September 15, 2022<\/a>. During the last few weeks, it\u2019s been a guessing game as to exactly where ethereum miners will go following The Merge.<\/p>\n

Ethermine is the world\u2019s largest ethereum mining pool with 262.79 terahash per second (TH\/s) dedicated to the Ethereum chain. The pool is much larger in terms of hashrate compared to the second largest ethereum mining pool F2pool<\/a>, as F2pool commands 127.48 TH\/s, according to today\u2019s mining pool statistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mining phase of Ethereum will come to an end on the 15th of September 2022. After this date, it will no longer be possible to mine ether on the Ethereum network using graphic cards (GPUs) or ASICs,\u201d Ethermine detailed. \u201cAs a consequence of this transition, the Ethermine Ethereum mining pool will switch to withdraw-only mode once the Proof-of-Work mining phase has ended.\u201d The blog post adds:<\/p>\n

An accurate countdown timer will be available on the miner dashboard. You can continue to mine ether until the countdown has reached zero.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ethermine\u2019s Disclosure Follows Ethereum Classic\u2019s Hashrate Spike<\/h2>\n

Ethermine\u2019s announcement follows the proposed creation<\/a> of a proof-of-work version of Ethereum<\/a> called ETHW. While a number of exchanges have listed ETHW<\/a>, the IOU token has crashed 63% from a high of $139.62 per unit to today\u2019s $50.68 per unit price. The chain has not forked yet, so there\u2019s no approximate way to figure out how much hashrate will support the proposed ETHW chain.<\/p>\n

Moreover, during the last four days, Ethereum Classic\u2019s (ETC)<\/a> network has received a significant boost in hashrate, climbing 39% higher since August 17. ETC\u2019s hashrate tapped an all-time high<\/a> on August 20, 2022, surpassing 38 terahash per second (TH\/s). Other Ethash-centric tokens like RVN<\/a>, ERGO, and BEAM<\/a> have not seen hashrate increases of the magnitude ETC<\/a> recorded this weekend.<\/p>\n
