He announced the partnership while on stage alongside Bernard Parah, the Nigerian CEO of Bitnob, following a short presentation on how the service works.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The feature is dubbed \u201cSend Globally,\u201d and it makes it easier for people to carry out instant, low-cost payments to Africa. The service takes advantage of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/a-simple-explanation-of-the-lightning-network\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Lightning Network<\/u><\/a>, the layer-2 payments network built atop Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bitnob\u2019s CEO explained that the feature doesn\u2019t require people to use Bitcoin themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Send Globally debuts in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to Strike, the feature is currently available to users in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, three popular English-speaking countries in the continent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>latest cryptocurrency news\u00a0<\/u><\/a>would benefit Africans because remittance services such as Wise take a small commission, while Western Union can charge more than 10% for money transfers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Bitnob CEO also explained that Dollar payments are instantly converted into naira, cedi or shillings (currencies in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, respectively). The funds are then deposited directly to recipients\u2019 banks, mobile money, or Bitnob accounts.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Remittance is a major source of foreign exchange to Nigeria and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/businessday.ng\/columnist\/article\/turning-diaspora-remittances-from-consumption-and-social-support-to-investments\/#:~:text=Diaspora%20remittances%20is%20the%20highest,outstripped%20oil%20revenues%20in%20Nigeria.\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>contributes more to Nigeria\u2019s GDP than oil<\/u><\/a>. Africa\u2019s leading economy received $17.2 billion in remittances in 2020. However, according to the world bank, 8.9% of the funds (around $1.5 billion) were lost in fees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">By eliminating remittance fees using Bitcoin payment systems, Nigerians will benefit financially.
