While Gemini has stated \u201csome Gemini customers have recently been the target of phishing campaigns,\u201d the exchange insisted that \u201cno Gemini account information or systems were impacted.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Gemini Suffers From \u2018Third Party\u2019 Associated Customer Data Leak, Report Claims Documents Show 5.7 Million Accounts Affected<\/h2>\n<p>On Dec. 14, 2022, the crypto news outlet Cointelegraph published a <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/gemini-allegedly-suffers-data-breach-5-7-million-emails-leaked\">report<\/a> that claims \u201c5,701,649 lines of information pertaining to Gemini customers\u201d have been leaked by a data breach. The reporter Zhiyuan Sun wrote that the publication reviewed documents that had shown the leak featured \u201cGemini customers\u2019 email addresses and partial phone numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same day, Gemini published a blog post about protecting customers from phishing incidents and it mentions a third party was responsible for the breach. \u201cSome Gemini customers have recently been the target of phishing campaigns that we believe are the result of an incident at a third-party vendor,\u201d the trading platform\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemini.com\/blog\/protecting-our-customers-from-phishing-campaigns\">blog post<\/a> discloses. \u201cThis incident led to the collection of Gemini customer email addresses and partial phone numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gemini\u2019s post adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>No Gemini account information or systems were impacted as a result of this third-party incident, and all funds and customer accounts remain secure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gemini is not the first crypto company to suffer from a data leak as Ledger, the hardware wallet manufacturer, had issues with a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/ledger-wallet-data-leak-dumped-on-raidforums-for-free-company-regrets-the-situation\/\">customer data leak in 2020<\/a>. Last year, the Indian crypto exchange Buyucoin was hacked and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/indian-cryptocurrency-exchange-buyucoin-hacked-data-users-leaked\/\">reportedly<\/a> sensitive data tied to 325,000 users was allegedly leaked.
