Damus, a self-proclaimed \u201cTwitter killer\u201d built on a decentralized network and funded by none other than Jack Dorsey, was authorized today on the Apple App Store.\n<\/p>\n

On Jan. 31, the Damus team verified the approval to its 11,500 Twitter followers, claiming at least three denials from the Big Tech player.<\/p>\n

Soon after, Twitter co-founder and Nostr contributor Jack Dorsey announced the news to his 6.5 million large Twitter following, calling it a \u201cmilestone\u201d moment for open-source protocols.\n<\/p>\n

The app bills itself as the \u201csocial network you own,\u201d and it is a messaging service based on Nostr, a decentralized network that, among other things, enables encrypted end-to-end private communications.<\/p>\n

It intends to become an unfiltered social media platform. According to a Jan. 27 article from Protos, it also supports built-in payments via the Bitcoin layer-2 Lightning Network.\n<\/p>\n

The network is not run by any servers. Instead, Nostr distributes communications through decentralized relays.\n<\/p>\n

Nostr engineers are also working to avoid distributed denial-of-service spam assaults on the Damus app by utilizing Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.\n<\/p>\n

Despite heavy testing of the App by high profile people in the world of crypto and free speech, including Edward Snowden<\/a>, the app has ran into some issues at press time. Current CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, has not commented yet on the launch of Damus.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
