The SEC has today confirmed the payment in a tweet.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today we announced that crypto asset trading platform Bittrex Inc. and its co-founder and former CEO, William Shihara, agreed to settle charges that they operated an unregistered national securities exchange, broker, and clearing agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (@SECGov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SECGov\/status\/1689741781481504768?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 10, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The exchange, however, has not agreed to nor rejected the SEC allegations of offering unregistered securities.<\/p>\n<h2>SEC\u2019s allegations against Bittrex<\/h2>\n<p>The US SEC had filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/sec-sues-crypto-exchange-bittrex-and-its-ex-ceo\/\">lawsuit against Bittrex and its former CEO<\/a>, William Shihara, in April for selling unregistered securities. The SEC also claimed that the exchange\u2019s foreign subsidiary, Bittrex Global GmbH, has failed to register as a national securities exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Bittrex is not the only cryptocurrency under siege by the SEC. Binance and Coinbase are also facing similar charges. However, both <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/exchanges\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/exchanges\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> have vowed to fight till the end.
