The economist and president of Queen\u2019s College, Cambridge, shared the outlook during an interview with CNBC\u2019s \u201cSquawk Box\u201d show on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">His comments also came as <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/tag\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> bounced off lows seen on Monday to trade above $26,000 as the broader market awaits the latest on US inflation. BTC was also up as asset manager Franklin Templeton filed for a spot bitcoin ETF to add to those of BlackRock, Fidelity and others.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Crypto becoming part of global ecosystem<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to El-Erian, the growing embrace of crypto by big mainstream players can only be good for the sector even amid the wider scope of Fed\u2019s rates path.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<em>Crypto is settling as part of the ecosystem. People have recognized it\u2019s not the new global currency. People have also realized it\u2019s not going to disappear tomorrow. It\u2019s been institutionalized. If I were a crypto person, this maturation process is a good thing<\/em>,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SquawkCNBC\/status\/1701586713246650594\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> CNBC.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The investor also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RNt-M-AY3ok\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a> that headline inflation is likely to \u201cprove much more complicated\u201d, with core inflation less well behaved amid the Fed\u2019s battle to bring it to its desired 2% level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In his opinion, the market may have to absorb the notion that the trajectory is \u201chigher for longer.\u201d He also thinks that the assumption is that the Fed will have to cut rates beginning early 2024, but this may not happen.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">El-Erian, who said he could not predict where the crypto market is headed in terms of price performance, is however optimistic about crypto\u2019s future in relation to the growing adoption by Wall Street giants.
