The number of sign-ups for the digital identity protocol exceeds 1% of the country\u2019s population, which stands at around 19.5 million, the Worldcoin team noted.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Amid the growing demand in Chile, Tools for Humanity \u2013 a developer group contributing to the development and adoption of Worldcoin \u2013 has added the biometric imaging devices (Orbs) to two other locations in Chile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other than the capital Santiago, the iris scanners are now located in the cities of Vina del Mar and Concepcion.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Worldcoin faces regulatory scrutiny<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Worldcoin, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and which <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/worldcoin-to-launch-its-wld-token-and-mainnet-today\/\">went live<\/a> in July this year, says more people are signing up with World ID as they receive \u201cfree\u201d WLD coins. Indeed, according to details on the project\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/worldcoin.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>website,<\/u><\/a> over 2.3 million people have had their eyeballs scanned so far.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Altman and team maintain that the project is for a digital ID that will help people prove online that they are human \u2013 a path towards Proof-of-Personhood in a world where AI may make this difficult. Data regulators and privacy groups across several countries have, however, raised concerns about Worldcoin\u2019s data collection.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s this push for more clarity on what happens to the biometric data that Worldcoin collects that has seen Argentina, France, Kenya, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and Germany take various regulatory steps.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Kenya, for instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/kenya-suspends-worldcoin-activities-after-nearly-half-a-million-sign-ups\/\">suspended Worldcoin\u2019s activities in August<\/a> and had a parliamentary inquiry after thousands of people thronged the capital Nairobi to have their eyes scanned in exchange for WLD tokens.
