He pointed to a loss of 5,000 ETH worth $8 million, but added that the exchange had covered the losses in full. User funds were also reportedly safe, with platform operations normal.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HTX <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HTX_Global?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HTX_Global<\/a> has suffered a loss of 5,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Eth?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Eth<\/a>  ($8 million USD) due to a hacker attack. HTX has fully covered the losses incurred from the attack and has successfully resolved all related issues. All user assets are <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SAFU?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SAFU<\/a> and the platform is operating completely normally.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 H.E. Justin Sun \u5b59\u5b87\u6668 (@justinsuntron) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/justinsuntron\/status\/1706311251024822748?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 25, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The attack reportedly unfolded on September 24, with the total amount stolen from this attack on yet another exchange put at $7.9 million at the time. HTX immediately responded to Cyvers\u2019 alert, taking swift action and notifying the public. An update included a message to the hacker that the HTX security team had \u201cunmasked\u201d the attacker\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Huobi offered a 5% \u201cwhite hat bonus\u201d to the attacker.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<em>We are willing to offer 5% of the stolen amount (400,000 USD) as a white hat reward to encourage the hacker to return the stolen funds. If the hacker returns the funds, we will also hire them as a security white hat advisor for HTX,<\/em>\u201d Sun <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/justinsuntron\/status\/1706317854851694781\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The exchange plans to involve law enforcement if the hacker fails to return the looted funds within seven days.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">HTX\u2019s breach comes a few weeks after the then Huobi Global team <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/justin-sun-addresses-huobis-insolvency-concerns-calls-it-a-fud\/\">dismissed insolvency rumours<\/a> and claims that its representatives had been detained in China.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The hack also comes not long after crypto exchange CoinEx suffered a major breach that saw North Korea\u2019s Lazarus Group steal $70 million.
