The cryptocurrency market has been bracing itself for possible changes to the strict tax regime, which levies a 1% TDS on every transaction and a 30% tax on earnings.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Unchanged TDS Policy Despite Industry Advocacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The finance minister chose to keep the current tax structure in place in spite of pressure from the homegrown cryptocurrency sector and a report from a reputable research group that called for a decrease in the TDS. In India, the cryptocurrency industry has been at odds over the TDS policy, with some calling for a drop from the current 1% to 0.01%.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Budget Announcement in an Election Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The budget announcement comes in an election year, with general elections scheduled in the next two months. Typically, in election years, the finance ministry presents an interim budget to cover short-term expenses, with a full budget expected after the election results. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janta Party are anticipated to return to power, according to polls.<\/p>\n<p>The 1% TDS has been a problem for <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/crypto\/indias-rbi-chief-reiterates-dangers-of-cryptocurrencies\/\">Indian cryptocurrency exchanges<\/a> since it was implemented two years ago. The business community has continuously pushed the government to reevaluate and lower the TDS to 0.01%.
