Both parties are accused in the case of stealing digital assets valued at tens of thousands of dollars from gullible Google Play App Store users.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Allegations of Social Engineering<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Google contends that Sun and Cheung utilized social engineering tactics to deceive individuals, enticing them to their counterfeit Android apps via text messages. As cited in Google\u2019s complaint, the perpetrators would send texts posing as strangers, subsequently cultivating relationships with victims under false pretenses.<\/p>\n<p>Once a rapport was established, the scammers purportedly persuaded their targets to invest in sham apps. Victims, drawn into the scheme, could only withdraw nominal sums of their supposed \u201cearnings\u201d before the perpetrators vanished entirely. When users sought to access larger amounts, they were coerced into making additional payments, a tactic emblematic of the scam.<\/p>\n<p>Google revealed that it has disabled 87 fake applications linked to the malicious people, which had been downloaded over 100,000 times globally.
