The move also hints at potential shifts in mainland China’s stance on crypto, which has been restrictive since 2021.

ChinaAMC, Harvest Global, and Bosera International are among the asset managers authorized by Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) to introduce spot market ETFs for bitcoin and ether. This decision reflects Hong Kong’s growing interest in becoming a cryptocurrency hub, with more licenses potentially on the horizon.

Spot Ether ETFs in Focus

Of particular note is Hong Kong’s approval of spot ether ETFs, positioning it among the first regions to do so. Canada, the pioneer in bitcoin ETFs, approved ETH ETFs shortly afterward. In contrast, the U.S. SEC, though compelled to allow spot bitcoin ETFs, remains hesitant regarding ether-based products.

Beyond Hong Kong, bitcoin ETFs have already been approved in Europe, Singapore, Australia, and Dubai, indicating a worldwide trend toward mainstream cryptocurrency investing. Australia is anticipated to follow the United Kingdom in June when the former decides to allow cryptocurrency-traded notes on the London Stock Exchange.

Hong Kong’s move is encouraging, but its effects on the market could not be the same as those in the United States. It’s possible that the explosive rise in bitcoin ETFs that occurred recently in the United States won’t happen again on the same magnitude. Setting a high standard, U.S. bitcoin ETFs have already accumulated billions in assets under management.

250% Extra + $125 Free Chip!

New players only. 250% on 1st Deposit + $125 Free Chip

Source link

(Originally posted on : Crypto News – iGaming.org ) Hong Kong regulators have greenlit the launch of spot bitcoin and ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs), marking a significant step in the institutionalization of these major cryptocurrencies.
