Eric Balchunas, an analyst at Bloomberg, recently delved into the potential of spot cryptocurrency Hong Kong ETF. Balchunas estimated an initial asset value of $1 billion within the first two years, although this falls short of the $25 billion projected<\/a> by some analysts from Chinese Investors.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the positive trajectory, Balchunas emphasized the pivotal role of infrastructure development in shaping the ETF landscape. He remarked, \u201cBut a lot depends on infrastructure improvement. We also think this helps HK as ETF leader in Asia region.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Challenges and Limitations<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Though the forecast was positive, Balchunas drew attention to a major obstacle: regulatory limitations on virtual asset transactions in China may prevent mainland Chinese investors from accessing Hong Kong-listed Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs.<\/p>\n

Balchunas emphasized that the updated estimate takes into consideration a longer timescale, allowing for improved infrastructure preparation to support ETF operations efficiently. Balchunas had previously projected $500 million.<\/p>\n
