{"id":31518,"date":"2024-05-29T07:50:06","date_gmt":"2024-05-29T07:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crowdfundjunction.com\/blog\/former-ftx-exec-ryan-salame-sentenced-to-7-5-years-in-prison\/"},"modified":"2024-05-29T07:50:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T07:50:06","slug":"former-ftx-exec-ryan-salame-sentenced-to-7-5-years-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crowdfundjunction.com\/blog\/former-ftx-exec-ryan-salame-sentenced-to-7-5-years-in-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Former FTX Exec Ryan Salame Sentenced to 7.5 Years in Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>(Originally posted on : Crypto News &#8211; iGaming.org )<\/b><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>According to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York, Ryan Salame, a former executive of FTX, was sentenced to 90 months, or 7.5 years, in prison.<\/p>\n<h2>Involvement in Unlawful Activities<\/h2>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated, <em>\u201cRyan Salame agreed to advance the interests of FTX, Alameda Research, and his co-conspirators through an unlawful political influence campaign and through an unlicensed money transmitting business, which helped FTX grow faster and larger by operating outside of the law.\u201d<\/em> Williams emphasized that Salame\u2019s actions <em>\u201cundermined public trust in American elections and the integrity of the financial system.\u201d<\/em> The severe sentence highlights the serious consequences of such federal crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this, Salame had already acknowledged his <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/crypto\/former-ftx-co-ceo-ryan-salame-to-plead-guilty-in-ongoing-case\/\">guilt<\/a> to accusations of conspiring to make illegal political donations, stealing from the Federal Election Commission, and operating an unregistered money-transmission enterprise. With his cooperation with U.S. authorities and the lifetime stigma he bears from FTX\u2019s failure, his defense team had hoped for an 18-month sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Salame will serve a three-year supervised release period after his jail sentence.
