The biggest bank in Latin America, Ita\u00fa Unibanco, has expanded its cryptocurrency trading<\/a> offerings on its investing platform, \u00cdon. Currently, all it takes to trade Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) is to download the \u00cdon app.<\/p>\n

Guto Antunes, the director of Ita\u00fa Digital Assets, provided an explanation of the bank\u2019s decision in a recent interview with the Brazilian publication Valor Econ\u00f4mico. A preliminary client group\u2019s weekly polls revealed a high level of demand for cryptocurrency items. Ita\u00fa decided to widen access based in large part on this input.<\/p>\n

Antunes highlighted Ita\u00fa\u2019s commitment to security by choosing to develop the crypto wallet security internally. \u201cWe have a participation and partnership with Liqi, but nothing regarding custody. The entire custody solution was designed and implemented within Ita\u00fa with our fiduciary duty in mind,\u201d<\/em> he stated.<\/p>\n

While the exact number of \u00cdon users remains undisclosed, the app has been downloaded over 3.5 million times on Android and iOS. Antunes described this figure as \u201csignificant for the crypto space and surprising,\u201d underscoring the growing interest in digital assets among Ita\u00fa\u2019s clientele.<\/p>\n

Despite the enthusiastic response, the current offering is limited to BTC and ETH. However, clients are requesting additional tokens. Antunes mentioned that these requests are being considered, pending a thorough regulatory risk assessment. On the topic of stablecoins, Antunes noted that Ita\u00fa is awaiting clear regulations from Brazil\u2019s central bank, without providing a specific timeline.<\/p>\n
