It also tagged the project\u2019s Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p>Following Ronaldinho\u2019s post, Water Coin\u2019s price rose nearly 40% to $0.0012. The excitement didn\u2019t last long, and at the time of publication, Water Coin\u2019s price had levelled at around $0.00088, CoinMarketCap <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/water\/\">data shows<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ronaldinho\u2019s post follows that of another football legend, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/lionel+messi\">Lionel Messi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the Argentinian player promoted Water Coin on his Instagram Stories. Like Ronaldinho, Messi showed a picture of himself with the meme coin\u2019s mascot peeking over his shoulder, along with tagging the project\u2019s Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, one of the exchanges listing the Water token is Bitget, a company Messi has been <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/bitget-unveils-new-messi-film-as-partnership-extends-to-second-year\/\">partnered with since 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Facing Criticism<\/h2>\n<p>According to its website, the charity token \u201caims to have a net-positive impact on [the] real world with the help of charity.\u201d However, it doesn\u2019t state how it will achieve this.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the promotion from several well-known soccer players, some have met their posts with criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Taking to X, analyst @ericonomics wrote of Messi that this was the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ericonomic\/status\/1810369647012667899\">third token scam<\/a>\u201d that he\u2019s promoted, adding \u201cthis time it\u2019s Water. They will probably rug soon so make yourself a favour and don\u2019t buy that sh*t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first one was Leafty, which was a rug (they removed the liquidity like 5 days later lol),\u201d @ericonomics wrote. \u201cThe second one was PLANET, a slow rug that is like -90% since that promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, this isn\u2019t the first time Ronaldinho has been connected with a controversial crypto project. Last August, he appeared before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YO0xjCZcdOA\">Brazilian parliamentary committee inquiry<\/a> over an alleged $61m crypto pyramid scheme that used his likeness without permission.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme, \u201c18kRonaldinho, used images of the soccer star in its marketing while promising investors a 2% daily return.
