The EU\u2019s crypto regulatory framework, known as MiCA, was <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/europes-mica-will-take-effect-on-sunday-ushering-in-a-new-age-of-transparent-crypto-regulation\/\">introduced in June<\/a>; however, it will take effect in December.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new regulation, the EU requires stablecoin issuers to hold e-money authorization in at least one EU member state. The framework aims to protect European investors from fraud and risks while boosting innovation and economic competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>In a report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-10-04\/coinbase-to-delist-non-compliant-stablecoins-in-eu-in-december\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>, a Coinbase spokesperson said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven our commitment to compliance, we intend to restrict the provision of services to EEA users in connection with stablecoins that do not meet the MiCA requirements by December 30, 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase is expected to provide an update in November to its EU customers, giving them options to convert their stablecoins to EU-compliant stablecoins such as Circle\u2019s USDC and Euro Coin (EURC).<\/p>\n<p>In July, Circle, a crypto payments company, became the <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/circle-becomes-first-stablecoin-issuer-to-secure-license-under-eus-mica-regulations\/\">first stablecoin issuer to obtain an e-money license under the EU\u2019s MiCA regulations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase isn\u2019t the only crypto exchange that\u2019s taking steps to meet the EU\u2019s requirements.
