Adaba, a lawyer representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the withdrawal during a hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 23, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumtimesng.com\/news\/top-news\/747930-nigerian-govt-drops-money-laundering-charges-against-binance-executive-gambaryan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He and Binance were charged with laundering over $35 million.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC lawyer said Gambaryan was an employee of <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/binance\">Binance<\/a> and that he wasn\u2019t involved in the company\u2019s wider financial decisions. The decision was agreed to by Mark Mordi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) representing Mr Gambaryan.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to drop the charges comes two days before a courtroom session was scheduled for October 25. According to Premier Times, the Wednesday hearing appears to have taken place to avoid as much attention as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Nadeem Anjarwalla, a colleague of Gambaryan, had also been detained while the two were visiting the country. In March, it was reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/binance-executive-held-in-nigeria-reportedly-escapes-from-custody\/\">Anjarwalla escaped<\/a> after boarding a Middle Eastern airline with the aid of a fake passport.<\/p>\n<h2>Charges dropped, but not acquitted<\/h2>\n<p>According to Adaba \u201cdiplomatic interventions\u201d and the \u201cextent of the defendant\u2019s involvement in the alleged crimes\u201d were the main factors for the decision.<\/p>\n<p>However, another EFCC lawyer said that the charges against Gambaryan were dropped to enable him to get medical attention abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have withdrawn the money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan to allow him to get medical treatment outside the country,\u201d said EFCC lawyer Ekele Ihenacho.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, while Gambaryan has been discharged, he hasn\u2019t been acquitted.
