Tether\u2019s CEO Paolo Ardoino recently disclosed new details about the assets held by the stablecoin issuer, shedding light on the company\u2019s growing Bitcoin (BTC)<\/a> reserves, gold investments, and extensive US Treasury holdings. This latest update, shared on social media platform X, highlights the strategic approach Tether is taking to secure its financial assets amid rising global economic uncertainty.<\/p>\n

Tether\u2019s Expanding Bitcoin and US Treasury Reserves<\/h2>\n

According to Ardoino, Tether now holds over 82,000 Bitcoin on its balance sheet, translating to roughly $5.8 billion at the current BTC price of $70,861. This represents an increase from the 80,000 Bitcoin recorded at the end of Q2 2024, showing a steady accumulation over the last three months. Additionally, the stablecoin issuer has significantly invested in US Treasuries, holding around $100 billion in these assets. Tether\u2019s gold investments have also grown, totaling over 48 tonnes, which aligns with Ardoino\u2019s belief in diversifying assets during uncertain times.<\/p>\n

The stablecoin USDT, which is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, continues to be a key player in the market, with a current market cap exceeding $120 billion. Tether\u2019s latest moves, however, indicate the company\u2019s strategy goes beyond stablecoin reserves to include an extensive investment portfolio. This portfolio was valued at around $6.56 billion in Q2 2024 and consists primarily of assets that align with Tether\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n

Tether\u2019s Mission-Driven Investment Approach<\/h3>\n

Ardoino explains that Tether\u2019s investments are mission-oriented, focusing on long-term resilience. \u201cThis capital is not managed as a classic VC (venture capital) fund. Tether invests only in companies and technologies that are aligned with our fundamental company mission: disintermediate, build for independence, build for resiliency, build for the future, build for the apocalypse.\u201d<\/em> By concentrating on assets with enduring value, Tether aims to build a secure foundation that could withstand economic shocks.<\/p>\n

This strategy also reflects Tether\u2019s outlook on global economic tensions. In August, Ardoino emphasized the growing importance of holding \u201cscarce assets like Bitcoin and gold\u201d due to heightened geopolitical risks worldwide. He noted, \u201cThere\u2019s so much tension starting from Europe: very, very high tension, to the US, to everywhere else in the world. Things are not nice. And so having an exposure to scarce assets like Bitcoin and gold is the way to go.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
