DC rumors that I\u2019m interested in some <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/crypto?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#crypto<\/a> role <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USTreasury?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@USTreasury<\/a> are also wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chris Giancarlo (@giancarloMKTS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/giancarloMKTS\/status\/1857074616373584127?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 14, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Speculation over the future head of the SEC comes as <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/donald+trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> promised to <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/trump-vowed-oust-sec-chairman-093300465.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remove Gensler<\/a> following his re-election to the White House earlier this month. Other possibilities for the role include <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/Hester+Peirce\">Hester Peirce<\/a>, an SEC commissioner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/07\/01\/donald-trump-crypto-take-aim-at-sec-as-biden-allies-raise-alarms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Atkins<\/a>, a former SEC commissioner, and Mark Uyeda, a current SEC commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>Giancarlo served as a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) between 2014 and 2019. In January 2017, he was designated as acting chair of the CFTC and in August 2017 he was confirmed to serve as the chair until 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, he co-founded the Digital Dollar Project, a non-profit forum focused on \u201cdigital money innovations\u201d and the benefits of a US central bank digital currency (CBDC).<\/p>\n<p>Gensler has been a controversial figure in the crypto market. Back in 2022, he said in an interview that the agency was <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/the-secs-crypto-crackdown-is-just-getting-started-says-gary-gensler\/\">increasing its oversight on crypto<\/a>. One of the cases this is noted is its <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/SEC+Ripple\">ongoing legal battle with Ripple<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, earlier this week, Gensler hinted at a possible departure from the agency during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/newsroom\/speeches-statements\/gensler-remarks-pli-s-56th-annual-institute-securities-regulation-111424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">speech<\/a> at the PLI\u2019s 56th Annual Institute on Securities Regulation.
