Sherrod Brown, the Senate Banking Committee chair, delayed the vote. When Brown requested the vote occur later that day, Republican senators blocked his request.<\/p>\n<p>Brown later released a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EleanorTerrett\/status\/1866981517932822540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> saying that corporate special interests are running a \u201cdisgusting smear campaign against Caroline Crenshaw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No date has been set for her renomination.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, crypto and blockchain advocacy groups <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/crypto-groups-oppose-re-nomination-of-secs-caroline-crenshaw\/\">voiced their opposition<\/a> to Crenshaw\u2019s renomination.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/theblockchainassociation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/BA-and-DEF-letter-of-opposition-on-re-confirmation-of-Caroline-Crenshaw.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> to Brown and Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Tim Scott, the Blockchain Association and the DeFi Education Fund argued that Crenshaw\u2019s actions have undermined Congress\u2019s mandate to establish clear regulatory policies for the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>In their letter, they mention Crenshaw\u2019s \u201ccontinued opposition to the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the news of Crenshaw\u2019s reappointment, Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, took to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/brian_armstrong\/status\/1865913522670260680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a> to say: \u201cShe tried to block the Bitcoin ETFs, and was worse than Gensler on some issues (which I didn\u2019t think was possible).\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>A Republican-majority SEC?<\/h2>\n<p>The delay to Crenshaw\u2019s renomination opens up the possibility of a three-person Republican SEC once <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/donald+trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> enters the White House in January. Crenshaw\u2019s term at the SEC officially ended in June; however, if she\u2019s renominated she would be the only Democratic SEC commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC can make up to five commissioners, but no more than three can form the same political party.
