Earlier in the day, Binance, the world\u2019s largest crypto exchange by volume, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/announcement\/binance-will-support-the-optimism-op-network-upgrade-hard-fork-86a978bb2ea64b6b8b44f41ecc6fb21b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> it would be supporting the upcoming network upgrade and hard fork of <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/optimism-opens-retro-funding-5-offering-8-million-op\/\">Optimism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Binance Will Support the Optimism (OP) Network Upgrade &amp; Hard Fork<br \/>\ud83d\udc49<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LtO3AKJmZm\">https:\/\/t.co\/LtO3AKJmZm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Binance (@binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/binance\/status\/1872614588006727844?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Optimism\u2019s network ugrade and hard fork takes place on January 9, 2025 at 18:00 UTC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStarting at approximately 2025-01-09 17:00 (UTC), Binance will suspend the deposits and withdrawals of token(s) on the Optimism (OP) network to support its network upgrade and hard fork to ensure the best user experience,\u201d Binance wrote in an announcement.<\/p>\n<h2>OP protocol upgrade<\/h2>\n<p>Optimism\u2019s network upgrade is a major milestone for the project as it targets key improvements across user experience, scalability and performance. The project said in an announcement that the protocol upgrade will drive interoperability and innovation in the OP ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Binance\u2019s notice of support boosts the overall sentiment around Optimism. According to the exchange, users should note that despite the changes and halting of deposits and withdrawals, OP trading on the network will remain unaffected.<\/p>\n<p>As Binance notes, the exchange will handle all technical requirements for the hard fork for its users.
