The new high surpasses its previous record of more than $108,000 achieved in December.<\/p>\n<p>Data from TradingView shows Bitcoin topped $109,036 around 6:55 am before dropping to $107,000 a few minutes later.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_263384\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-263384\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-source=\"CoinJournal\" class=\"wp-image-263384 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Bitcoin-109000.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1860\" height=\"706\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-263384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BTC\/USD Chart by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/BTCUSD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TradingView<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump mentioned Bitcoin in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=54nc7_ZwwzM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday speech<\/a>, highlighting its record performance since the US election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the election, the stock market has surged and small business optimism has soared a record 41 points to a 39-year high,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBitcoin has shattered one record high after another.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Support for crypto<\/h2>\n<p>Once critical of Bitcoin who said that it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-57392734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seems like a scam<\/a>\u201d a few years ago, Trump has since embraced crypto, showing his support for it during his presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>During his campaign trail, he vowed to make the US the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/donald-trump-unveils-plan-to-make-usa-the-crypto-capital-of-the-planet\/\">crypto capital<\/a>\u201d of the world and has appointed several crypto-friendly candidates into his incoming administration. Some familiar names include <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/donald-trump-selects-pro-crypto-paul-atkins-to-be-the-next-us-sec-chair\/\">Paul Atkins as the next US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/donald-trump-names-david-sacks-as-ai-and-crypto-czar\/\">crypto czar David Sacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is also expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/trump-to-make-crypto-a-priority-with-executive-order\/\">sign an executive order prioritizing crypto<\/a> when he enters the White House today.<\/p>\n<p>On the eve of Trump\u2019s inauguration, he <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/trump-meme-coins-580-surge-stirs-market-is-idegen-the-next-gem\/\">launched his $TRUMP memecoin<\/a>, which, at one point, was valued at $75 per coin, according to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/official-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoinMarketCap<\/a>. At the time of publishing, it\u2019s trading at $51 with a market cap of more than $10 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Incoming First Lady Melania Trump also launched her memecoin, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/melania-meme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$MELANIA<\/a>, which was trading at a high of $13.
