OpenAI just launched an AI product designed particularly for the US government.<\/p>\n

The new offering it\u2019s calling \u201cChatGPT Gov\u201d will enable government agencies to share \u201cnon-public, sensitive information\u201d with artificial intelligence without having to compromise on privacy and security.<\/p>\n

More than 90,000 employees of local, state, and federal government have used ChatGPT since the start of 2024 to generate well over 18 million prompts, according to OpenAI.<\/p>\n

What we know so far about ChatGPT Gov<\/h2>\n

ChatGPT Gov is similar to the enterprise version of the AI offering in terms of the user interface.<\/p>\n

But will run on the government agencies\u2019 own cloud, making it easier to \u201cmanage security, privacy, and compliance requirements,\u201d as per the company\u2019s head of federal sales Felipe Millon.<\/p>\n

The use of artificial intelligence has so far faced intense scrutiny due to data privacy concerns and other potentially harmful effects.<\/p>\n

However, an OpenAI representative said the company focused on special considerations that apply to government use of artificial intelligence in developing ChatGPT Gov.  <\/p>\n

The announcement arrives only days after President Donald Trump announced a $500 billion AI initiative<\/a> backed by OpenAI and Oracle. <\/p>\n

Note that shares of the San Francisco headquartered artificial intelligence company are not yet available for the public to trade.<\/p>\n

What DeepSeek\u2019s AI model means for OpenAI<\/h2>\n

OpenAI has been in focus this week after a Chinese rival DeepSeek launched a new AI model it claimed was more powerful than ChatGPT but costed only a fraction to build.<\/p>\n

The US firm has already acknowledged DeepSeek\u2019s achievement, calling its model impressive. <\/p>\n

However, it also \u201cunderscores how important it is that the US wins this race,\u201d according to OpenAI\u2019s chief product officer Kevin Weil.<\/p>\n

Weil also told reporters in a briefing today that OpenAI remains fully committed to \u201cmoving really quickly\u201d in order to \u201cstay ahead\u201d and maintain its competitive edge.<\/p>\n

Note that Statista forecasts the artificial intelligence market to grow at a compound annualised rate of more than 27% through the end of this decade.<\/p>\n

President Trump wants US to lead the AI revolution<\/h2>\n

OpenAI\u2019s commitment to staying ahead is in line with the broader vision of President Trump who dubbed DeepSeek\u2019s new AI model a \u201cwake-up call\u201d<\/a> for the American tech companies.<\/p>\n

He urged the domestic AI firms to focus on innovation to retain their competitive edge on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The recent developments unfold amidst the new government\u2019s commitment to making America a leader in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n

Continues momentum in AI spending pushed OpenAI valuation to $157 billion in its most recent funding round \u2013 close to double the $80 billion it secured in its previous round earlier in the same year (2024).<\/p>\n
